Boise State football is built on a blue collar attitude and a tradition of hard work and sacrifice, created by players past and present. A symbol of these qualities, and one of the traditions of the Bronco football program, is the Hammer. The Hammer is given to the Special Teams Player of the Week, who leads his teammates onto the field the following game, signifying the solidarity of the team and the unity that allows them to play for a cause bigger than themselves.
